Why Work With Hearts In Action?

We take time to understand your strengths, experience and availability, then look for participants whose support needs are a good match.

Build Your Hours

When new support becomes available, we offer it to our existing team first. This helps our workers build their hours and work towards greater financial security.

Work With Regular Participants

Supporting the same people gives you time to build trust, understand how they like things done and see their progress. You meet the participant before support begins, so you can both consider whether the match feels right.

Have a Team Behind You

Need to ask a question, discuss a concern or change a shift? Call your team leader. They know the participant, and we work through it together.

Practical. Personal. Varied.

What Does Disability Support Work Involve?

Support work can look different from one person to the next. Depending on their needs, interests and goals, you might help with daily routines, attend an appointment together or support them to learn a new skill.

One participant wanted to protect his sheep from severe weather, so he and his support worker planned and built a shelter together.

Other shifts have involved fishing, VR Motorsport, meeting for coffee or joining our social pickleball group in Meadowbrook. Most shifts start at the participant's home.

Your Responsibilities May Include

  • Helping with personal care and daily routines.
  • Driving participants to appointments, shops and activities.
  • Supporting community participation and social connections.
  • Helping people build confidence and everyday skills.
  • Providing assistance such as hoisting, with appropriate training.
  • Responding calmly and reliably when plans change.

Who You'll Support

Our participants have a broad range of support needs. You'll get to know each person as an individual, including their preferences, routines, goals and boundaries.

Shifts and Working Hours

Mostly Casual Roles

Most of our disability support worker jobs in Logan are casual. We consider your availability alongside the times participants need support.

Four Hours or Longer Is the Aim

Our minimum shift is two hours, and we aim for shifts of four hours or longer. Most are Monday to Friday, with weekend, overnight and sleepover shifts also available.

Hours Depend on the Match

Hours depend on suitable participant matches and their ongoing support needs. We work towards consistent arrangements.

We Build Your Hours First

As participants request more support, we look for suitable workers within our team first, taking their availability and financial needs into account.

Where You Could Work in Logan

From Springwood and Daisy Hill to Meadowbrook and Beenleigh, we support people across the City of Logan and welcome applications from workers living nearby.

How to Apply for Support Worker Jobs in Logan

Start by introducing yourself through VideoAsk. When we need to recruit, we review our applicant list before placing new adverts.

  1. Complete Your VideoAsk

Answer four questions on camera using your phone, and write down your availability: the days and hours you can work, and how many hours you want each week. You can upload your resume at the same time.

  2. We Consider You for Suitable Opportunities

We look at your experience and the availability you've given us alongside participants' needs. If there isn't a match straight away, we may contact you when another opportunity comes up.

  3. Attend an Interview

If there's a potential match, we'll contact you to discuss the role, shifts and any questions you have.

  4. Meet the Participant

The participant chooses who supports them, and you both get to see whether the match feels right.

Preparing for Your VideoAsk

VideoAsk is a talk-to-camera step before an interview. Recording yourself can feel a little uncomfortable, so we've included the four questions to help you prepare.

You don't need rehearsed answers or to feel confident on camera. Some applicants have worried about their recording when they actually came across very well to us. Take your time, be yourself and give it a go.

  1. Why do you want to be a support worker?
  2. What makes a good support worker?
  3. Can you share a specific time in a past role when a client or colleague directed their frustration at you? How did you manage your emotions in that moment and ensure it didn't affect the support you provided?
  4. How does using your phone for personal reasons during a shift affect participants?

Disability Support Worker Jobs Logan: FAQs

How much do support workers earn at Hearts In Action?

Including 12% super, our casual rates are $48.42 an hour on weekdays, $67.78 on Saturdays, $87.15 on Sundays and $106.52 on public holidays. Before super, that's $43.23, $60.52, $77.81 and $95.11.

Are your support worker jobs casual or part-time?

Most roles are casual. We aim to build consistent working arrangements and offer new support to our existing team first so they can increase their hours.

Do I need experience or qualifications to apply?

You can apply without a formal qualification. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or similar is desirable, and we consider your experience, judgement, reliability and willingness to learn.

Do I need my own car?

Yes. We require a driver's licence, registered vehicle and comprehensive vehicle insurance. We pay a kilometre allowance when you transport participants in your vehicle during a shift.

How long are the shifts?

Our minimum shift is two hours, and we aim for four hours or longer. Shift lengths and times depend on each participant's support needs.

Can I apply if my availability is limited?

Yes. Let us know the days and times you can work. A suitable match depends on when participants need support, so we may contact you later if your availability doesn't match our current needs.

I've applied before. Can I still be considered?

Yes. We review our applicant list before placing new adverts. If you weren't selected previously, it may have been because your availability didn't match the support required at the time. Completing VideoAsk helps us consider you for future opportunities.

What's the difference between a disability support worker and an NDIS support worker?

Disability support worker is the broader job title. NDIS support worker generally refers to someone providing support funded through a participant's NDIS plan. Our NDIS support worker jobs in Logan are the same roles described on this page.

I'm looking for disability support, not a job. Where do I go?

This page is for people applying to work with Hearts In Action. If you're an NDIS participant or family member looking for support, visit our NDIS support workers in Logan page, or read about us as a registered NDIS provider in Logan.
