Why Join the Hearts In Action Team?
We get to know your strengths, experience and availability so we can introduce you to participants whose needs are a good match for your skills.
Lasting Working Relationships
We aim for ongoing relationships where you get to know a participant's routines, preferences and goals. You'll meet before support begins, so you can both consider the match. Working together regularly gives trust time to develop and helps you recognise their progress.
Hours That Grow With You
As new support becomes available, our existing workers have the first opportunity to take on suitable shifts. This helps them increase their hours and work towards greater financial security.
Someone to Call
Call 07 2812 2406 when you need advice, want to raise a concern or need to discuss your shifts. You'll speak with people who know the participant and can help.
What a Support Worker's Day Involves
What you do on a shift depends on the person you're with: their needs, their interests and their goals. One day it's help with the morning routine, the next it's going along to an appointment or working on a new skill together.
One Gold Coast participant wanted to see monster trucks in person, so his support worker took him to a live show at Cbus Super Stadium.
For another participant, a weekly visit to feed the pelicans is a favourite part of their routine. Most shifts begin at the participant's home.
What You Could Be Doing
- Supporting someone to take part in the community and stay connected.
- Helping with daily routines and personal care.
- Driving participants to appointments, shopping and activities.
- Building everyday skills and confidence, one step at a time.
- Assisting with hoisting after appropriate training.
- Offering calm, reliable support when plans change.
Who You'll Be Supporting
Each participant brings their own interests, preferences and support needs. Your role includes learning how they like things done, respecting their boundaries and understanding the goals they want to work towards.
Our support guides are available through the underlined links. Reading them before applying can help you get familiar with the resources we use in team training.
Shifts and Hours on the Gold Coast
Mainly Casual
Most of our disability support worker jobs on the Gold Coast are casual. Share your availability with us so we can consider opportunities that fit participants' support needs.
Two Hours Minimum, Four Preferred
Our minimum shift is two hours, with an aim of four hours or longer. Most support takes place on weekdays, although weekend, overnight and sleepover shifts are also available.
Hours Based on Suitable Matches
We work towards consistent hours with participants you're well matched with. The hours available depend on those matches and each person's ongoing support arrangements.
We Grow Our Own Team's Hours
When extra support becomes available, it goes towards our team's hours, in line with their availability and financial needs. New team members are hired only when necessary.
Where You Could Work on the Gold Coast
Our recruitment area stretches from Pimpama and Coomera through Southport and Robina to Coolangatta. We aim to match Gold Coast participants with support workers who live nearby.

What You'll Need Before Starting Work
We're looking for people who are clear communicators, keep their commitments and respect participants' choices. It helps to hold a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or something similar, though it isn't a requirement for applying. If you've begun a relevant course, let us know. You don't need any of the documents below to apply. They can be arranged after you've joined us.
Checks and Certificates
- NDIS Worker Screening clearance (Yellow Card)
- Blue Card
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Licence and Vehicle
- Driver's licence
- Car registration certificate
- Comprehensive vehicle insurance
Identification and NDIS Training
- Birth certificate or passport
- New Worker NDIS Induction Module certificate

All of these are required before you start work, not to apply. Expiry dates are tracked in our scheduling platform, which helps everyone stay up to date. If you're unsure what you're missing, call 07 2812 2406 and we'll talk it through.
Training and the Gold Coast Team You'll Join
Whether you're starting out or bringing years of experience, we provide training and encourage you to keep developing your skills and knowledge.
Matt, our director, is studying a Bachelor of Psychology. He draws on research articles to write the support guides our team uses, and you can read them on our website before you apply.

KristaHow to Apply for Support Worker Jobs on the Gold Coast
Introduce yourself through VideoAsk to get started. When we need to recruit, we review our applicant list before placing an advert.
Introduce Yourself on VideoAsk
Use your phone to answer four questions on camera. We'll also ask you to write down the days and hours you're available and how many hours you'd like each week, and to upload your resume.
We Review Your Application
We review your experience and the availability you've given us alongside participants' support needs. If there isn't a suitable opportunity yet, we may get in touch later.
Join Us for an Interview
If a match looks possible, we'll get in touch to discuss the role, the shifts and anything you want to ask.
Meet the Participant
The participant decides who supports them. Meeting gives both of you the chance to check the match feels right.
Your VideoAsk: The Four Questions
VideoAsk is the video introduction you complete before an interview. We know recording yourself can feel unfamiliar, so we've included the four questions to help you prepare.
You don't need a polished presentation. We're interested in what you have to say, and some applicants who felt nervous came across very well. Take your time and answer in your own words.
- Why do you want to be a support worker?
- What makes a good support worker?
- Can you share a specific time in a past role when a client or colleague directed their frustration at you? How did you manage your emotions in that moment and ensure it didn't affect the support you provided?
- How does using your phone for personal reasons during a shift affect participants?
Disability Support Worker Jobs Gold Coast: Common Questions
How much does a support worker earn on the Gold Coast?
Our casual hourly rates, including 12% super, are $48.42 on weekdays, $67.78 on Saturdays, $87.15 on Sundays and $106.52 on public holidays. Without super, those rates are $43.23, $60.52, $77.81 and $95.11.
Are these casual or part-time roles?
The majority are casual. Our aim is consistent working arrangements, and we give our existing team the first offer of new support so their hours can grow.
Do I need a Certificate III to apply?
No. You can apply without a formal qualification, although a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or similar is desirable. Your experience, judgement, reliability and willingness to learn all count.
Do I have to use my own vehicle?
Yes. A driver's licence, a registered vehicle and comprehensive vehicle insurance are all required. You're paid a kilometre allowance for transporting participants in your vehicle during a shift.
Is there a minimum shift length?
Yes, two hours, and we aim for shifts of four hours or longer. Shift lengths and times reflect the support each participant needs.
Can I apply with limited availability?
You can. Let us know the days and times that work for you. Because a match depends on when participants need support, we may get in touch later if your availability doesn't suit what we need right now.
I've applied before. Should I apply again?
Please do the VideoAsk. If you weren't selected last time, your availability may not have matched the support needed then. We review our applicant list before we advertise, and completing VideoAsk helps us consider you in future.
What's the difference between an NDIS support worker and a disability support worker?
