NDIS Capacity Building Support

Capacity Building support helps you grow the skills you want to grow, at your own pace. Cooking, work, transport and everyday independence, all built around what matters to you, with a support worker alongside you as you get there. You can meet the support workers on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich before your support starts.

Building A Sheep Shelter

One of our participants was worried about his sheep getting caught out in a hailstorm, so we built a shelter together: planned it, measured it, and put it together from the ground up.

Tyre Repair

A flat tyre, fixed start to finish. We worked through the puncture repair together, pumped the tyre back up, and refitted it to the vehicle.

Restoring An Outdoor Table

An old outdoor table brought back to life: sanded back, cleaned up, and restained, start to finish.

Cooking and meal prep with a Hearts In Action support worker

Cooking And Meal Prep

Planning meals, prepping ingredients, and building kitchen skills you’ll actually use, at your pace. We start with meals you already like, then build from there. Portion sizes, food safety, and cleaning up afterwards are all part of the same visit.

Finding and keeping work - interview prep and on-the-job support

Finding And Keeping Work

Resume help, interview practice, and support that continues once you’ve got the job, not just to help you land it. Your worker can come along to that first shift if having someone there makes it easier.

Building confidence getting out and about on public transport

Getting Around

Learning bus and train routes, and building the confidence to get around on your own, at whatever pace makes sense for you. We start by riding along with you, then step back once you’re ready.

Matt from Hearts In Action - one-on-one mentoring

Mentoring

One-on-one mentoring with Matt, director of Hearts In Action and a psychology student at the University of Southern Queensland’s School of Health, Psychological and Medical Sciences. Real conversations, real goals, no clipboard.

NDIS Capacity Building FAQ

What is capacity building in the NDIS?

Capacity building is one of the three NDIS budget types, and it funds supports that build your skills and independence over time, rather than only helping with the day to day. In your plan it appears as Capacity Building categories, such as Improved Daily Living, with each category tied to one of your goals.

What are examples of NDIS capacity building supports?

Everyday NDIS capacity building examples include learning to cook and plan meals, travel training on buses and trains, budgeting practice, building confidence for work and study, and developing social skills. The projects on this page, like building a sheep shelter or restoring an outdoor table alongside a support worker, are capacity building in action: real goals that grow real skills.

Which part of my plan pays for capacity building support?

Your plan's Capacity Building budget. Unlike Core funding, it is less flexible: each category can only be spent on supports that match its purpose. Prices are capped by the National Disability Insurance Scheme Pricing Schedule 2026-27, and you can look up the capped rate for any support in our free NDIS price guide.
