NDIS Community Access Support
NDIS Community Access support helps you get out, stay connected, and take part in the things that matter to you: sport, shopping, appointments, or just being out in the community. Hearts In Action’s NDIS support workers work alongside you across the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, and Brisbane, building each outing around what you actually want to do.
Monster trucks
A local monster truck show at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast, front row and full volume. One of our participants wanted the real thing, not a video of it. So that’s what we supported.
Out on the boat
A day out fishing in Ipswich, rod in hand, no rush to catch anything. Sometimes community access is just being somewhere different for a while.
Feeding the pelicans
A regular stop for one of our participants on the Gold Coast: bucket of fish, pelicans queued up, same spot every time. Consistency matters as much as the outing itself.
VR racing
Full-motion VR racing in Brisbane: strapped in, engine roaring, without the real-world risk. For participants chasing that kind of adrenaline hit, we help make outings like this happen.
Helping make everyday life easier
Whether it’s grocery shopping, getting to an appointment, visiting your favourite beach spot, or kicking a ball around at the park, Hearts In Action is here to support you with the everyday things that matter to you. Your NDIS support worker gets to know what you actually enjoy, not just what’s on a roster. You choose the activity, the pace, and how much support you want once you’re there.

NDIS Community Access FAQ
Is community access the same as social and community participation?
Yes. Social and community participation is the wording the NDIS uses in your plan; community access is what the same support is commonly called. Both mean a support worker helping you get out and take part in your community. Depending on your plan, it's funded from your Core budget under Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation, or from your Capacity Building budget under Increased Social and Community Participation. On plan statements it's often abbreviated to the NDIS Access Community Social and Rec Activities line item; it all funds the same thing.
What are examples of NDIS community participation activities?
Anything that gets you involved in your community: sport and recreation, social groups, events, appointments, shopping trips, a coffee or a walk, or a bigger day out. The outings on this page, from feeding the pelicans to the monster trucks and VR racing, are all real examples from our participants' weeks.
What can community access funding be used for?
It funds community access disability support: your support worker's time to help you take part, with prices capped by the National Disability Insurance Scheme Pricing Schedule 2026-27. The activity costs themselves, like tickets or meals, are usually your own expense. You can look up the capped rate for community access support in our free NDIS price guide.
