What Working With Us Looks Like

We consider your strengths, experience and availability alongside each participant's needs and preferences. This helps us find people you can work well with.

Build Your Hours With Us

We offer suitable new support to our current team before looking for new workers. This helps people increase their hours and work towards greater financial security.

Call Your Team Leader

For questions, concerns or shift changes, call your team leader. You'll speak with someone who knows the participant and can help.

Time to Build Trust

Because you support the same people, you have time to earn their trust, learn how they like things done and notice their progress. You and the participant meet before support begins, and you each decide whether the match feels right.

Practical help. Personal goals.

What the Job Involves Day to Day

You might help someone with their morning routine, support them at an appointment or spend time practising an everyday skill. Each person's needs, interests, goals and choices guide what you do together.

One Ipswich participant wanted to spend a day out on the boat, so his support worker helped him go fishing.

Other support might involve visiting the Saturday markets, enjoying a milkshake at a favourite cafe or walking through Queens Park. Most shifts start at the participant's home.

The Work Can Include

  • Personal care and help with daily routines.
  • Building confidence and everyday skills.
  • Driving to appointments, shops and activities.
  • Community participation and social connection.
  • Hoisting and similar assistance, with appropriate training.
  • Calm, reliable support when plans change.

The Participants You'll Work With

You'll support people with different abilities, interests and day-to-day needs. Taking time to understand their preferences, routines, goals and boundaries helps you provide support that feels comfortable and useful to them.

Working Hours and Shifts in Ipswich

Mainly Casual Roles

Most of our disability support worker jobs in Ipswich are casual. The days and times you can work help us identify participants whose support arrangements may suit you.

How Long Shifts Run

Shifts run for at least two hours, and our aim is four or more. The majority are Monday to Friday. Weekend, overnight and sleepover shifts are available too.

Hours Follow the Match

We aim for consistent working arrangements. Your hours depend on suitable participant matches and their ongoing support needs.

Our Team Before New Hires

Before hiring, we consider whether someone on our team can take on the support, taking their availability and financial needs into account.

Where You Could Work in Ipswich

We welcome local applicants from Ipswich Central, Brassall, Redbank Plains, Springfield and surrounding suburbs. Across the Ipswich region, we look for workers based close to the participants they'll support.

If your suburb isn't listed, apply and tell us where you are and how far you'd travel.

Learn on the job. Grow with the team.

Training and the Ipswich Team You'll Join

You'll have training and a team to learn alongside. We encourage everyone to keep building their knowledge, whether this is their first support role or they have years of experience.

Our director, Matt, is studying a Bachelor of Psychology and uses research articles to develop our support guides. These are part of our team's training and are available on the website for you to read.

Matt and Grace stay involved with the support each participant receives. They keep the shifts organised and are on hand when something needs discussing or adjusting.

How to Apply for Support Worker Jobs in Ipswich

Your first step is a VideoAsk introduction. We review the applicant list each time we need to recruit, and only advertise after that.

  1. Answer Four Questions

Complete your VideoAsk on camera using your phone, then write down your availability: the days and hours you can work and the number of hours you want each week. Upload your resume as part of the same step.

  2. We Consider Your Application

We look at the availability you've written down and your experience alongside what participants need. If the timing isn't right, we may contact you about a later opportunity.

  3. Interview With Us

If there's a possible match, we'll invite you to an interview to discuss the role, shifts and any questions you have.

  4. Meet the Participant

You'll meet before support begins. The participant chooses their worker, and you'll also have the opportunity to decide whether the role feels right for you.

Preparing for the VideoAsk Questions

The first stage is a video introduction through VideoAsk, followed by an interview if there's a potential match. We've included the four questions to help you prepare, giving you time to think about your answers before recording.

Take your time and answer in your own words. You don't need to be polished or confident on camera. Some people who felt they hadn't done well actually came across very well to us, so please don't let nerves stop you.

  1. Why do you want to be a support worker?
  2. What makes a good support worker?
  3. Can you share a specific time in a past role when a client or colleague directed their frustration at you? How did you manage your emotions in that moment and ensure it didn't affect the support you provided?
  4. How does using your phone for personal reasons during a shift affect participants?

Disability Support Worker Jobs Ipswich: FAQs

What are the pay rates for support workers in Ipswich?

Casual rates including 12% super are $48.42 an hour Monday to Friday, $67.78 on Saturdays, $87.15 on Sundays and $106.52 on public holidays. Before super is added, the rates are $43.23, $60.52, $77.81 and $95.11.

Will I be employed as a casual?

In most cases, yes. We try to build consistent arrangements, and our existing team is offered new support first so they can increase their hours.

Do I need to be qualified or experienced?

A formal qualification isn't needed to apply. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or similar is desirable, and we take your experience, judgement, reliability and willingness to learn into account.

Do I need a licence and a car?

Yes, both. We require a driver's licence, a registered vehicle and comprehensive vehicle insurance. If you transport participants in your vehicle during a shift, you're paid a kilometre allowance.

Is there a two-hour minimum shift?

Yes. Two hours is our minimum, and we aim for four hours or longer. The length and timing of each shift depend on the participant's support needs.

My availability is limited. Can I still apply?

Yes. Tell us the days and times you can work. Since a suitable match depends on when participants need support, we may contact you down the track if we can't match you straight away.

Can I be considered if I've applied before?

Yes. Before placing a new advert we review our applicant list. If you weren't selected earlier, it may be that your availability didn't fit the support required at that time. Doing the VideoAsk helps us consider you for future opportunities.

Are disability support worker and NDIS support worker different jobs?

We use both terms for the roles advertised here. Disability support worker is the broader title; NDIS support worker refers to providing support funded through a participant's NDIS plan. Our NDIS support worker jobs in Ipswich follow the application process on this page.

I'm looking for a support worker, not work. Where do I go?

This is our recruitment page. If you're an NDIS participant or family member looking for support, go to our NDIS support workers in Ipswich page, or read about us as a registered NDIS provider in Ipswich.
