Working With Hearts In Action
Your experience, strengths and availability all help us find the right match. We want you to feel comfortable in your role and able to provide the support each person needs.
Support When You Need It
If you have a question, a concern or need to change a shift, call your team leader. We work together, and your team leader knows the participants and can help you work through it.
Opportunities to Build Your Hours
We look within our team before recruiting for new support. Offering suitable shifts to existing workers helps them build their hours and work towards greater financial security.
Participants You Get to Know
Regular support gives you time to understand someone's routines, build trust and recognise their progress. You'll meet the participant before your first shift, giving you both the chance to decide whether you'd work well together.
What Support Workers Do on a Shift
A shift might involve helping someone get ready for the day, attending an appointment or practising a new skill together. What matters is understanding the person's needs and interests, and supporting them to work towards their own goals.
One Brisbane participant wanted to try full-motion VR racing, so his support worker helped him enjoy the experience.
You might also share a quiet coffee, kick a footy at the park or help with the weekly shop. Most shifts begin at the participant's home.
On a Shift You Might
- Drive a participant to appointments, the shops or an activity.
- Assist with personal care and daily routines.
- Help someone build confidence and everyday skills.
- Support community activities and connections with other people.
- Provide assistance with hoisting after appropriate training.
- Stay calm and dependable when the plan changes.
The People You'll Support
The people we support have a wide range of needs, and no two are alike. Part of the job is learning each person's routines, preferences, goals and boundaries.
The underlined links take you to our support guides, which we use in team training. You're welcome to read them before applying.
Shifts and Hours in Brisbane
Mostly Casual Positions
Our disability support worker jobs in Brisbane are mostly casual. When considering your application, we compare your available days and times with participants' support schedules.
Shift Lengths
Two hours is the minimum shift. We aim for four hours or more. Most shifts fall on weekdays, and there are weekend, overnight and sleepover shifts as well.
Finding Consistent Hours
We aim to arrange regular support with suitable participants. Your hours will depend on those matches and the support each person continues to need.
Existing Team First
As more support becomes available, we offer suitable hours to our current team, taking their availability and financial needs into account.
Where You Could Work in Brisbane
We welcome applications from across Brisbane's northside and southside, including Chermside, Nundah, Mount Gravatt and Forest Lake. We look for workers who live near the people they'll support.
If your suburb isn't listed below, you can still apply. Let us know where you're based and how far you're happy to travel.
We're also recruiting in Logan, the Gold Coast and Ipswich.
What We Look For, and What You'll Need Once You Join
Clear communication, reliability and respect for participants' choices are important in this role. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or a similar qualification is desirable, but you don't need one to apply. We also welcome applications from people studying a relevant course, so let us know where you're up to. None of the documents below are needed to apply. You can get them after you join our team.
Checks and Certificates
- NDIS Worker Screening clearance (Yellow Card)
- Blue Card
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Licence and Vehicle
- Driver's licence
- Car registration certificate
- Comprehensive vehicle insurance
Identification and NDIS Training
- Birth certificate or passport
- New Worker NDIS Induction Module certificate
- Supporting People to Stay Infection Free module
These need to be in place before your first shift, not before you apply. Our scheduling platform tracks the expiry dates so the team stays current. Not sure you have it all? Call 07 2812 2406 and we'll go through it with you.
Training and the Brisbane Team You'll Join
You'll receive training and support to keep developing your skills, whether you're new to support work or already experienced.
Matt, our director, develops our support guides using research articles alongside his Bachelor of Psychology studies. You can explore the guides on our website to learn more about our approach before applying.
Matt and Grace remain involved in participants' support and organise shifts. You can speak with them when you need guidance, have a concern or want to discuss a change.

KristaHow to Apply for Support Worker Jobs in Brisbane
It starts with a short introduction on VideoAsk. Whenever we need someone new, we look through our applicant list before we advertise.
Record Your VideoAsk
Four questions, answered on camera from your phone. You'll also write down your availability: which days and hours you can work, and how many hours a week you're after, and upload your resume.
We Look for a Match
We review your experience and the availability you've written down to identify suitable opportunities. If we can't offer a match now, we may contact you when another role becomes available.
Have an Interview
When a match looks likely, we'll contact you to talk through the role, the shifts and your questions.
Meet the Participant
Participants choose who supports them. Meeting first lets you both decide whether it feels right.
What We'll Ask You on VideoAsk
VideoAsk is a talk-to-camera step that comes before an interview. Talking to a camera isn't everyone's favourite thing, so we've included the four questions in advance to help you prepare.
We want to hear your answers in your own words, and it's okay to feel nervous. Applicants sometimes worry they haven't done well when they've actually made a good impression. You don't need camera confidence to give it a go.
- Why do you want to be a support worker?
- What makes a good support worker?
- Can you share a specific time in a past role when a client or colleague directed their frustration at you? How did you manage your emotions in that moment and ensure it didn't affect the support you provided?
- How does using your phone for personal reasons during a shift affect participants?
Disability Support Worker Jobs Brisbane: Your Questions
What do support workers get paid in Brisbane?
With 12% super included, casual shifts pay $48.42 an hour on weekdays, $67.78 on Saturdays, $87.15 on Sundays and $106.52 on public holidays. The rates before super are $43.23, $60.52, $77.81 and $95.11.
Is the work casual?
Mostly, yes. We work towards consistent arrangements, and when new support comes up we offer it to our existing team first so they can add to their hours.
Can I apply without a qualification?
Yes. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or a similar qualification is a plus, not a requirement. We also look at your experience, judgement, reliability and how willing you are to learn.
Is a car required?
It is. You need a driver's licence, a registered vehicle and comprehensive vehicle insurance. When you transport participants in your vehicle during a shift, we pay a kilometre allowance.
What's the shortest shift?
Two hours. We aim for four hours or more, and the length and timing of a shift depend on the support each participant needs.
I can only work certain days. Should I still apply?
Yes. Tell us which days and times suit you. Matching depends on when participants need support, so if nothing lines up now we may contact you later.
I've applied before and wasn't selected. Is it worth doing the VideoAsk?
Yes. You may have missed out only because your availability didn't suit the support needed at the time. We go back through our applicant list before placing new adverts, and a completed VideoAsk helps us consider you for what comes up next.
Is a disability support worker the same as an NDIS support worker?
On this page, both terms refer to the same roles. Disability support worker is the broader job title, while NDIS support worker describes someone providing support funded through a participant's NDIS plan. You can apply for our NDIS support worker jobs in Brisbane here.
I need a support worker, not a job. Where should I look?
You're on our recruitment page. If you're an NDIS participant or a family member, our NDIS support workers in Brisbane page is the place to start, and you can also read about us as a registered NDIS provider in Brisbane.
